There are numerous benefits with this type of class, including the ability to drop in and out of the class as you wish.We offer both one to one home tuition, and group tuition, with a maximum of four students in each group based class.
What Is Personalised Learning ?
Each of our students has their own individual short and long term goals in learning pattern cutting. Some are just beginners, wanting to learn the basics. Others just like to learn how to cut sleeves, or collars. And others have a particular project that they need help with.
Individual Learning Plan.
Our pattern cutting tutors develop a learning plan through a discussion with the each student. This may consist of just one lesson, or a series of lessons. You can choose to pay for just one day at a time if you want.
Case Study.
David had some limited knowledge of pattern cutting. He was self taught, making and sewing his own patterns. He was trying to cut a waistcoat pattern, but got stuck, so he decided to give our home tuition a shot.
We discussed with David what he wanted to achieve through home learning, and realised that he just wanted occasional help with his pattern making when he needed some advice.
To start with we asked him to send images of his pattern, laid flat, and pinned to a mannequin. We also need to see what the neck run looked like, by placing the front shoulder against the back shoulder.
From these images we could see that the pattern was out of balance, both vertically and horizontally. The back neck line looked a little odd. There was no shaping. Now some people like their waistcoats without any shape to them, but David wanted a nice fit.
So, we got David to clean up the back neck, adjust the back balance by reducing the back length through the armhole, adjust the vertical balance by adding a little to the front width, put in some chest shaping by adding a vertical waist dart, and to shape the waist at the side seam a touch.
These were all pretty small individual adjustments, that made for a far nicer fit. David made all of these adjustments, then pinned the pattern to the mannequin again to check the fit.
Finally, David made a mock-up toile to check the shape. He put the toile on a mannequin, and sent us photos from the front, back and sides. All was perfect except for a slight tweak of the shoulder angle.
