Swimwear Tech Pack
Your Tech Pack.
Swimwear and sportswear are both niche areas of clothing. They require in depth specialist knowledge in order to create professional tech packs that a factory can work with confidently.
Both swimwear and sportswear use primarily stretch fabrics. Much of the specialist machinery used in swimwear can also be used sportswear.
In order for your factory to make your garments exactly as you intend them to be, you will need to provide them with a tech pack. But what is a tech pack ? It is an important document that provides a blueprint for your design, in order that it is made exactly as you intend it to be.
Swimwear.
Different swimwear fabrics have different degrees of stretch. Some stretch one way while others stretch both ways. This means that, unlike with woven garments, you cannot always use the same patterns for two different fabrics.
You may have to create a completely new pattern and grades for the same design in different fabrics. If one fabric stretches one way, while another stretches both ways, this will certainly be the case.
You would also need to create a new tech pack, although much of the information would remain the same. We do however provide tech pack design classes to enable you to do this yourself from a template.
Spaghetti straps are used extensively in swimwear styles. Accurate measurements need to be provided for each one in your tech pack.
Sportswear.
Sportswear, or gymwear, or fitnesswear, or activewear, are all very similar types of highly functional garments. While much sportswear today is stretch, there are also plenty of technical styles that are made in non stretch.
Our Tech Pack Design Service.
We at The London Pattern Cutter make tech packs for all types of garments. While swimwear techpacks follow the same basic formula as regular ones, there are very specific details that relate to swimwear garments that do not relate to other clothing types.
We offer a swimwear tech pack design service for anyone wishing to manufacture either in the UK or abroad. Although it can be cheaper to manufacture abroad, it is still advisable to do the sample development and tech pack in the UK.
DIY Tech Packs With Adobe Illustrator.
We don’t generally recommended you try to make your own tech pack, unless you know exactly what you are doing. An exception may be if you have a number of very similar styles, where you are able to follow a specific professional template.
You may find a number of unexpected problems with a DIY approach.
If you do choose the DIY route, then you will need to use Adobe Illustrator, or a similar program to create your tech pack.
Help And Advice.
If you need some help and advice with designing your collection, or you are unsure of construction methods, we will have an expert to help you.
A professional tech pack is essential for your swimwear designs, especially if you are aiming to have your collection made outside of the UK.
