Golf Clothing Brand
Starting A Golf Wear Brand.
In order to start and run a successful golf apparel business, it is necessary to have some understanding the role of fabric, function, and fit in modern golf wear.
Like all sports clothing, golf apparel has changed enormously over the past few decades. Technical clothing is now far more functional than it was.
Garments are designed for all weathers and conditions, and can be multi functional, or layered so that each layer has its own special function.
Modern Fabrics.
Much of the progress in technical sportswear has been achieved through the use of modern fabrics, that have so many more practical qualities. Qualities such as lightness, increased stretch, breathability, wind resistance, and water resistance.
Because of the lightness of modern fabrics it is also possible to use different layers to achieve different things. Under garments provide warmth and support. Waterproofs provide protection against the rain, while still being breathable. Windproofs protect against the cold wind.
Gone are the days of the bulky “boil in the bag” jacket that served just one purpose. Replaced by modern light breathable jackets that are a pleasure to wear.
Ergonomics.
Because of the improvement in modern stretch fabrics, garments really dont need to be quite as ergonomically shaped to provide the same range of movement. Sleeves dont have to be cut to allow for a free range of movement, as the garment just moves with the body.
All these changes alter the aesthetics of a garment, as functionality and aesthetics are very closely linked. This mens that you can design more visually appealing clothing.
The Design.
As with any sportswear, you will probably not be looking to re-invent the wheel. There are certain restrictions in what you can practically design. There could of course be a market for totally impractical gear that doesnt allow for function.
Generally though, the big brands have spent a lot of time and money developing their product designs. They know what works, and they have perfected their fit and sizing.
It is worth using whatever has already been done to base your own designs on. That is not to say that you would copy their designs, but rather than start from scratch you could use a garment for reference, or maybe combine the features of several.
Just Do It.
There is far too much to learn about starting and running a golf wear line to discuss here – Brand identity. Marketing. Costing. Range selection. Etc. Etc.
We suggest that the best way to learn is to just get on with it. We run an intense two hour, one-to-one startup workshop for anyone new to the clothing business. This workshop is custom made for your specific business.
We can help you with practical help and advice every step of the way, from mentoring and advice to sampling and production.
Brand Identity.
To distinguish your brand from others it is important to develop a brand identity. This may be achieved with the use of embroidered or printed logos.
Tech Pack.
If you have already found a factory, or are intending to manufacture abroad, you will require a tech pack to ensure that you get exactly what you want. The tech pack is the blueprint for your design. We can provide you with a highly professional tech pack design service.
