Industrial Sewing Machinery List.

Straight Stitch Sewing Machine.

The straight stitch is the basic stitch for sewing, used to sew two pieces of fabric together. Domestic straight stitch sewing machines are readily available and cheap. Industrial straight stitch machines last a lifetime, with very little maintenance required.

Four Thread/Three Thread Overlocker.

This high speed industrial overlocker ( serger)  is best for seaming woven fabrics. It uses two loopers and two needles, and  will stitch a chain stitch or safety stitch as it overlocks the seams. Mock safety stitch.

It can be converted from a 4 thread over locker for jersey or lycra, to a 3 thread overlocker generally used to neaten seam edges for woven fabrics. Best used on medium to heavy weight fabrics, or on stressed seams, where it provides a very strong stitch.

Elastics can also be easily  sewn using a four thread overlocker.

Zig Zag Machine.

A versatile machine, running on a silent motor, which is capable of being used in four different ways : For sewing sheer fabrics and lingerie; as a one step zig zag, used on both stretch and woven fabrics; a normal lockstitch on a one step setting; as a bar tack for certain types of fabrics.

Five Thread Overlocker And Chain Stitch.

This machine uses a two thread chain stitch with a three thread overlock. This is a very strong seam, commonly used in trouser production. The seam width can finish 3/8″, 1/2″, or 5/8″.

The machine overlocks the fabric edges while simultaneously stitching a 1cm chain stitch. Mostly used on woven fabrics such as denim and cotton. This machine can be converted from a 5 thread to a 3 thread.

Six Needle Flat Seamer.

Feed off the arm flatseam machine – Used for sewing underwear, knitting, sportswear, and diving suits.  Flatlock seams can use anything from two to six threads, but the more threads used in a flat seam, the stronger the seam will be.

In a flatlock seam the two fabric edges are butted together, without overlapping. This creates a flat seam, which is generally more comfortable and less bulky  than an overlocked seam. This helps prevent chafing in garments that are worn next to the skin.

Flatlock seams are also more decorative than normal seams, and a sign of quality. A contrast colour may be used to enhance the design features.

Babylock Overlocker Serger.

Industrial rolled hem, or baby hem.

Bar Tack Machine.

The bar-tack machine produces a tight zig zag stitch, used to reinforce weak areas, or areas of stress on a garment. Notably used for sewing on belt loops, pocket openings, trouser flies, and button holes. Bar tacks are very useful in outdoor and technical garments.

The threads used in bar tacking are often in a contrast colour to add some design detail to a garment.

Blind Stitch Hemming Machine

The blind hemmer is used to produce a hemming stitch that is invisible on the right side. The stitch is formed by moving the needle from side to side rather than up and down. Also called an invisible stitch, or slip stitch.

Brother VR Embroidery Machine.

single  Needle with four threads  industrial embroidery Sewing Machine.

Coverstitch Machine.

The coverstitch, or coverhem, machine is used extensively to hem stretchy garments such as  knitwear, activewear, sportswear and T shirts. This is a twin needle  coverstitch machine that provides a double row of top stitching on the face of the fabric.

This is a very secure but highly stretchy stitch in either a self colour, or contrast colour.  Can be used to attach elastic
