Sampling FAQ
What Is Garment Sampling ?
(087). The aim of the garment sampling process is to develop and perfect your design before bulk production. It is really important to ensure that whoever you choose for sampling has the pattern cutting expertise that you need. The vast majority of UK factories do not employ experienced pattern cutters.
The sampling process begins with your design, using your chosen fabrics and trims. If you have a tech pack, then all the relevant information should be included in this tech pack.

What Is A Toile ?
A toile is a basic mock-up of your design, normally made in a plain calico fabric. It does not need finishing in the same way as a sample. It does not need buttons or trims. Design details such as pockets can be drawn on rather than sewn.
Not every design needs a toile. It may be preferable to move straight to the full sample.
What Is A Factory Sample ?
The factory sample is a pre-production sample made by the factory before bulk production. This should be made exactly as the full production garments would be made, with the exact trimmings and finishes.
This sample can be used to compile a garment spec for testing the production.
How Much Does Sampling Cost ?
It is impossible to estimate the cost of sampling without sufficient information. The cost depends on mulitiple factors.
