Custom Mens Shirts London

Custom Made Shirts.

239. Getting a bespoke  shirt made can cost a fortune. Even before the fabric is bought and the shirt is made, a pattern has to be custom made  for you. Once the pattern is made however, it can be used to make any number of shirts in the future.

Shirts have been around since before the middle ages, having originated as  under garments and night gowns. In the earlier days these shirts were generally very simple, home made garments that were just pulled over the head, without buttoned openings.

The better off however, would have their shirts tailor made. Like all menswear, the design of the shirt changed only very slowly over the years.

The modern day shirt began really with the button front shirt, first registered by Brown,Davies & Co. in 1871. In the 1930`s the fixed collar shirt gained in popularity and has remained popular ever since.

Custom made shirts are becoming very popular in the U.K. with more people wanting a fully customised  shirt tailored to fit their specific requirements and body shape.

Made To Measure.

As more people than ever before change their body shapes through Fitness and Body building they expect clothing that will show off their figure to best advantage.  Saville Row and Jermyn Street Shirt Makers are booming.

Off the peg shirts are specifically made to fit as many people within a size range as possible, which means that they are unlikely to fit any one person well. We can make any type of shirt to your design, or we can copy your existing favourite shirt for you.

Making shirts and the patterns for them are specialist areas that require considerable experience. We have worked for many Clients over the years, producing shirt patterns and samples as well as Bespoke made to measure  shirts for individual Clients. While most of our Customers are in London, we have Customers from all over the U.K.

Kraftwerk

While  standard shirt patterns and samples are relatively straight forward, formal shirts and bespoke made to measure shirts are more complicated and need to be made with special machinery.

There are very few specialist shirt makers left in the U.K. but there is a growing demand for U.K. made custom shirts.

We pride ourselves in being able to make virtually any type and style of bespoke shirt to the highest standard.

We are not a traditional shirt maker, so not restricted in the way most bespoke shirt makers are.  We can be far more creative in our approach.

We will create a pattern to fit you perfectly, either from your own measurements, or from an existing garment.  You can supply the fabrics, or we can source  them for you.

When you buy a shirt off the shelf the fit normally depends on just one measurement – The neck circumference. The entire shape of the shirt is based around this one measurement and does not take account of height or build.

Small Runs.

We can produce small runs of high quality mens and ladies shirts for both individual clients, or small designer brands.

Finding Fabric Suppliers.

For small designer companies with a limited budget who just require small production runs, it is very difficult to find shirt fabrics at affordable prices. Even if fabric suppliers can be sourced, it may be difficult to buy the fabrics in small quantities. We can help you with mens shirt fabric sourcing.

It is in purchasing fabrics that the small designer has most scope in being able to cut costs. They cannot afford to cut corners on the patterns or the making quality, although obviously neither do they want to be “stitched up” in these areas.

But in buying fabrics there are ways to purchase fabrics cheaply without stinting on quality. It is important however, not to be too narrowly focused on a specific fabric if this fabric is hard to obtain at a good price.

It is possible to buy fabrics at a fraction of the cost they would otherwise be. With the mark-up this can make the final price of your shirt significantly lower than it would otherwise need to be.

Helping You Choose Fabrics.

As part of our short one to one workshops we can  assist you with the process of sourcing and buying fabrics. We have a list of contacts collected over the years. Sometimes you will have to do the leg work, armed with the information we give you.

Other times we can do the finding and purchasing for you. We will sit down with you along with your designs to help you choose the correct fabrics and to purchase the right amount.
