How To Create A Tech Pack
Can You Create Your Own DIY Fashion Tech Pack ?
Yes, it is certainly possible to create your own fashion tech pack with little or no experience. But it can be very difficult if you have limited knowledge of how clothes are constructed, how to measure garments, or have no understanding of basic terminology used in the clothing business.
Tech packs are a significant cost for new designers producing small quantities of clothing on a limited budget. DIY tech packs can save you a lot of money, but can also be very risky if you make any costly errors. The money you save on a tech pack designer may be worth the risk as long as you take measures to minimise those risks.
Using A Tech Pack Template.
There are many tech pack templates available on the internet that can be useful for new designers, but they will rarely replicate your own styles sufficiently to eliminate the possibility of costly errors. A tech pack template needs to be as close to your design as possible. Because you are setting down in stone everything about how the garment is to be made, the factory will feel obliged to follow your instructions to the letter, rather than use their own judgement. And because your neck pack LOOKS professional, they will assume that you know what you are doing.
Although you need expert guidance, It can be cost effective to do some of the work yourself using templates. If you have a number of similar styles, it can be fairly straight forward to create your own tech pack using a template made specifically for you. This is why we offer the 1-1 tech pack workshops and classes.
The Third Way.
Apart from employing a tech pack maker, or creating the tech pack yourself, there is a third way that minimises both cost and potential risks. You could make the tech packs yourself, and employ our tech pack designers to sit side by side with you and check through your self designed tech packs.

Tech Pack Workshops.
It is obvious from the many enquiries we receive concerning tech packs, that most of our clients dont really understand what a tech pack is for. Or why and when they are required.
For a startup fashion business we will often advise against their use for sampling if we dont think they are necessary. They can often be a waste of time and money at this stage.
Where they are really necessary is in the production stage. Because they require substantial professional knowledge they cannot really be done by non professionals without assistance.
While we do provide a tech pack design service, we often find that the best and most cost effective solution is to provide bespoke tech pack classes for our clients.
In these 1-1 workshops we go through your designs with you and provide the information for you to complete as much of the tech packs as you need, using our templates, or your own.
We can advise you on the types of seams, or stitching. We can advise on which labels you need and what important information you need to supply for a successful outcome. If you have a number of designs that are similar, you may feel that you dont need to pay for a tech pack for each design.
