Couture Dressmaker London

Couture Designer Dressmaker London.

237.  Mae is a fashion designer, pattern cutter, and couture dressmaker based in Walthamstow , London. She specialises in draping and luxury, made to measure ladies clothing – Designed and made just for you. At a reasonable price, that doesnt break the bank.  Made to the highest standards by a highly skilled seamstress.

She is  a Fashion Designer, Dressmaker,  Seamstress, Atelier, and  Couturier.

Who you ask to create your luxury designer dress or outfit depends on the range of services you require, and your budget. If you already have a design, fabric and a bespoke pattern, then maybe you just need an experienced dressmaker.

If you are private individual looking for a luxury evening dress, or wedding gown,  you will have different needs to a new high end fashion brand. Your choices are :-

Dressmaker.

London has hundreds of  dressmakers, working from their own home, or from small studios around the capital. An experienced dressmaker should be able to make a perfectly good job of sewing your garments, and adjusting your shop bought patterns, as long as it is within their field of expertise.

You do need to find the very best dressmaker to ensure, with tons of experience for high quality making though.

A dressmaker  is not generally experienced in design, pattern cutting, or sizing. They tend to  have a limited range of specialist machinery, and do not supply fabrics. Most dressmakers will provide a cut and sew service.

Seamstress.

A seamstress is more likely to be a professional sewing machinist. Sometimes they specialise in certain areas of sewing, such as tailoring, lingerie, or wedding dresses, although many can turn their hand to just about anything.

Although most seamstresses should be prepared to cut the fabric, it is not always part of their normal job, so they may expect you to do that for them. Although that could save you some money, it is a job that requires skill and experience, so it is worthwhile hiring a professional.

 Sample Machinist.

A sample machinist is an experienced seamstress who sews samples professionally. A sample machinist should be highly skilled, but may not be experienced in your particular field.

Fashion Designer.

Fashion designing tends to be a talent that you cannot easily acquire. It requires a good eye for detail, and an in-depth understanding of garment construction. Although many designers can cut their own patterns, they rarely make the garments themselves. They will normally employ a seamstress to do the sewing.

Couturier/ Couturiere.

A couturier is a  designer who  manufactures and sells  ladies fashion garments to a clients` specific requirements. A couturier should have a great eye for detail, as well as an extensive knowledge of fabrics and garment construction.

Generally they will have a thorough understanding of the whole of the garment creation process. They should be able to design a garment based on the clients ideas, inspirations, and requirement.

If you want a unique, exclusive design, a luxury wedding dress, or a limited edition, then a couturier would be your best bet.

Haute Couture.

Haute couture is the luxury end of couture. While in France there is a legal definition of haute couture, in the UK, while you would assume that the haute couturier would be of higher quality, with more hand sewing, this does not always have to  be the case. High fashion

Atelier.

This is a word that has become widely used in recent years. It is a french word meaning workshop or studio. An Atelier is a group of artisans working together. In the UK an Atelier and couturier may be the same thing.

FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions :-

Do You Work With Fashion Startups And Beginners ?

Yes, we work with many complete beginners and startups. We provide a wide range of services and advice.

Do You Offer Low MOQ Manufacturing ?

Yes, we can provide small scale production for our clients.

What Is An Atelier ?

An Atelier is a workshop or studio where artists and designers  produce their work.

What Is The Difference Between Bespoke And Couture ?

The main difference between bespoke and couture is that bespoke is one-off, whereas couture can be mass produced. Bespoke is more widely used in mens tailoring, but can also be applied to ladieswear.

What Is The Difference Between A Dressmaker And A Seamstress ?

These days the two terms are interchangeable, although a dressmaker is more likely to be a home sewing machinist, while a seamstress would be a professional sewer.

How Much Does A Couture Dress  Cost ?

A couture dress may cost anything from £600 upwards. It can certainly cost tens of thousands of pounds. It depends on many factors such as fabrics and embellishments. And whether the designer brand is popular at the time.

Can You Provide Images Of Your Work ?

Yes. Images can be provided on request.

What Do I need To Get Started ?

That depends on the services you are looking for. Just contact us initially, and we can advise you.

Why Is Couture So Expensive ?

While the very top end of couture is extremely expensive, not all couture is so prohibitively priced. At the top end you are often  paying  for the name and location, as well as extreme luxury. You are  also paying for the time, talent and expertise of all the top professionals involved in the creation of your outfit.

There can be extensive  hand sewing and embroidery involved in making top end apparel. That can take many hours of hand sewing to perfect.

Just as with mens bespoke tailoring, there is a lot of hand work that goes into the construction of a luxury top end gown.
