Quality Control Workshop

Quality Control Workshop For Clothing.

202. Garment quality control is an extremely important part of the clothing manufacturing process. If you do not have at least a basic understanding of this, then you are leaving yourself open to possible disaster.

Our two hour London workshop in Greenwich  is designed to provide some basic useful advice regarding quality control. The most important part of quality control is the tech pack. Although professional tech packs are by far the best way, they can tend to work out quite expensive for small fashion brands on a budget.

With our quality control workshops, we go some way to teaching how to achieve the quality with or without a professional tech pack.

There are hundreds of clothing factories in London, but few really good factories, and fewer good factories that will deal with small orders.

When a big company approaches a factory for production, they have highly experienced QC experts who are pretty ruthless when it comes to getting the quality they want at an affordable price.

The factories will bend over backwards to ensure that these companies get that quality. They will be on a small profit margin.

But they gain some kudos  from working for  these prestigious companies, which they can use to increase their prices to less well known or emerging brands.

When a smaller company approaches these factories with a tiny order, the factory sees it as just an irritation really. They may make a few bob pocket money if they can cheaply outsource the order to another factory, or a home machinist.

They will have no minimum pay to worry about, or other expenses associated with running a factory.  They will also be pretty confident that the client will know nothing about quality control and will be easily fobbed off if there is a problem.

If you arm yourself with even a small amount of information, you can greatly increase your chances of the production quality control  being up to scratch.

There are a number of ways that even the most inexperienced person can do this. For instance, I always suggest to make sure that you find at least some minor faults in their sample garment.

A lot of novices will be so happy to see any finished garment they are likely to be gushing about how lovely it is. This sends a signal to the factory owner that the client is easily pleased and uncritical. The factory owner will be well aware of any defects in the sample.

If you havnt spotted them then it gives him a green light to lower the quality. I am not saying that all factories will do this as there are factories that have personal pride in their work. But it is only human nature to try less hard if they are given no incentive.

I am not saying that you shouldnt be gushing either. A decent factory owner will find it quite dis-spiriting to be told that his lovingly made sample is just not good enough.

I am saying that you can be very pleased with it, but just point out that the topstitching isnt quite perfect, or the collar could be a little  crisper –  ” The sample looks amazing, but could you just try to get the topstitching a little more even ? ”

The two hour one to one quality control workshop is the fourth start-up workshop in a series. you can either take them individually or a s a group. It will address the basics of quality control and using spec sheets.

It is not meant to be an in depth course.  if you have a sample already, we can use this as a base. If you choose to use us to make your samples, then the factory will still have to make their own sample.

Although you do not have to provide one to the factory, it is normally advisable, unless cost is an issue. Of course, if your quantities are lowm then we can also deal with the production.
