Adobe Illustrator Classes For Beginners.

The London Pattern Cutter are currently running  one-to-one Adobe Illustrator courses and workshops for beginners and intermediates. Classes can be either in-person or online  via live  Zoom classes.

Learn how to use Illustrator  your own way, at your own pace, at  times to suit you. This could mean just one lesson a week, or two a week, or every day if that suits you. You can book just one lesson, or  a complete beginners course.

Introductory Fashion Drawing  Workshop.

We run a special introductory workshop on how to use Illustrator for fashion drawing, flats, or technical flats. This is available as either a face to face workshop, or online. The introductory workshop would cost £200.

Not every fashion designer can create beautiful freehand fashion sketches, and these days it is not really necessary. Computer generated drawings are so much quicker and easier, once you have learnt how to draw using a computer programme. Fashion figure sketch

Illustrator is incredibly useful for creating tech packs, especially technical flat drawings that are central to any tech pack design. Tech packs are essential for fashion designers looking to bring their designs to market. Get all the training you need to be able to create professional tech packs.

Learning Illustrator is essential if you want to become a fashion designer. You can certainly learn how to become a fashion designer at fashion school, but it is a very long winded route, entailing a four  year fashion design course, expensive tuition fees, and your total focus.

A  large percentage of fashion design students drop out mid course.  Some become disillusioned, or bored with learning stuff that they dont want, and dont need. Others  realise  that fashion is just not for them. It can be a very expensive route to become a fashion designer.

What Is Adobe Illustrator ? 

Adobe Illustrator is a vector drawing and editing programme. It is widely used within the clothing  industry, by  fashion designers, pattern makers, garment techs, graders, and tech pack creators.

It is the most  popular software for fashion designers  to create fashion templates, drawing flats, tech sketches, presentation boards, and  textile and pattern designs.

It is the ideal fashion design software  for  total beginners, or  young  designers  looking to break into the fashion industry without any official fashion school training.

What Is An AI File ? 

An AI file is the proprietary Adobe file type for vector images. Unlike raster  file types made up of pixels, vector files dont lose their resolution when they are scaled, as they are infinitely expandable.

You will need to use Illustrator to create, edit and save an AI file. While you can view AI files on some third party  programmes, you will not have full editing functionality.

Is Adobe Illustrator Easy To Learn For Beginners ?

Yes, Adobe Illustrator is easy to learn. if you have an experienced teacher, and you are dedicated to learning through a variety of platforms, it should take a couple of weeks to learn the basics, if you apply yourself.

Maybe you are a complete beginner. Or  you are  self-taught, relying on self-help books, the internet, YouTube videos, and free tutorials. But you still need to have personalised  expert tuition to guide you, answer your questions, and to dramatically speed up the learning process.

How Long Does It Take To Learn Illustrator ?

How long it takes to learn Illustrator depends on how quick you learn, and how much you practise. It should take a couple of weeks to learn the basics, and maybe six months to master if you practise constantly.

It is possible to teach yourself Illustrator, but it can take a very long time to become proficient without professional  training with an expert teacher. Although it is possible to be self-taught in Adobe Illustrator, it is best to use mixed learning for quick results.

We have several teachers available to teach Adobe Illustrator online. Each tutor decides their own hourly rate. A fashion graduate may charge £18/ hour. An experienced  specialist with twenty years experience may charge £30 – £45/ hour.
