Good sample machinists are in great demand in the UK generally, and London in particular, where temporary work for skilled machinists is easy to find and jobs are plentiful.

Although most of our clients are London based, others are located throughout the UK. Some clients just want good quality samples made. Others want samples and small production runs by micro factories.

Young fashion brands  are not just  looking to have professional samples made. They also need the wisdom and advice that years of experience can bring.

Many experienced sample machinists and dressmakers can be quite competent at pattern cutting simple garments, or grading up and down a couple of sizes.  They wont have the same level of expertise that an experienced pattern cutter will have. But not every designer needs to employ a pattern cutter on top of a sample machinist, when a machinist will do both jobs.

What Machinery Do I Need Working From Home? 

If you are working from home as a freelance sample machinist  it is not always necessary to have  top industrial sewing and pressing machinery. The important thing is that it works well, without malfunctioning.

Some sample machinists and home sewers have been known to use hand powered or foot powered sewing machines. While these are slow, they provide more control for the machinist.

Most jobs require an overlocker, although a good domestic over locker, or serger, will be perfectly adequate.
