Mens Capes & Cloaks
Capes.
102). When imagining a mans cape, most of us probably think of the Inverness cape as worn by Sherlock Holmes in the Victorian era. this was an overcoat with sleeves that was covered by a sleeve length cape. later the cape section was divided in two.
Difference Between A Cape And A Cloak.
Normally the difference between a cape and a cloak is that the cape is short while the cloak is full length. While the full length version may be referred to as a cape, the short version is never called a cloak.

Fashion Capes.
Capes have never really been in fashion since the Victorian days, although maybe a few Dandies and Steampunks have been keeping the style alive. In recent years a few designers have sought to resurrect the cape as a fashion item. Some of these modern designs look hideous, although the more traditional shapes can still look stylish.
There is something quite ostentatious about a man wearing a cape as a fashion item. It could be regarded as either high fashion , or as old fashioned.
Functional Capes.
The cape has long been a utility garment, used for fishing, cycling, shooting and hunting. And used widely by the military and police. It will always serve a useful purpose as a functional garment when protection from the weather is required.
Patterns And Samples.
In order for us to create a pattern for your cape design, ideally we would require an existing garment along with a sketch, and information for both front and back. Additional pictures and a look book of ideas and details would also be useful. Once the pattern is completed we can make a toile if necessary, or go straight into making the sample.
Learn How To Create Your Own Pattern.
If you would like to create your own cape or cloak pattern, then provide a one to one pattern cutting class in which we can help you create your own bespoke pattern.
Production.
Although we really specialise in patterns and samples, we do offer a small production service for those who only want very small quantities, or those who would like a trial run before progressing to larger numbers. So our maximum is roughly fifty garments per style.
