Menswear Sampling Unit.

Producing professional menswear samples is a challenge that not all domestic sampling units can meet. Menswear can be very exacting, requiring special machinery and materials, as well as specialist pattern cutters and sample machinists.

Each branch of menswear is itself  a specialist genre, requiring quite specific knowledge and machinery. Construction methods need to be right, whether making streetwear, shirts, trousers, jeans, coats, or a tailored jacket.

In menswear, garment construction methods and both internal and external  materials need to be chosen very carefully so as to achieve the exact look required.

Domestic Menswear Factories.

It is generally advisable to do all your sample development within the UK, whether you choose to use domestic or offshore factories for your production.

Most UK factories will have no idea how to make menswear correctly. They wont have the machinery or expertise. But that wont stop them from having a very expensive crack at it.

For sampling it can be acceptable to not use the exact construction methods that your final production will require, as long as the sample still serves its purpose.

But the factory does need to have the expertise and knowledge to do a professional job.

Sometimes it is not possible to find a domestic  UK factory that can offer a competitive production price at the necessary quality. But to go offshore can be very risky.

In this case it is better to develop the sampling in the UK before approaching the offshore factory, so reducing the risk.

Specialist Machinery.

Specialist machinery is important in menswear because menswear can be fairly standardised. The larger the quantities, the more mechanised the process will be.

For sampling purposes it may be necessary to mock up certain types of construction if  the sampling unit does not have all the correct machinery.

A Good Sample Machinist.

A good sample machinist with many years experience should be able to make just about any sample that you ask of them. Menswear does require a lot of experience and a knowledgeable and skilled machinist.
