What Is A Freelance  Garment Tech ?

(69/44). Clothing technicians, or garment technicians have a very important role within the clothing industry. Experience is absolutely vital to ensure good quality outcomes. While some freelance garment techs have trained specifically for that job, many have either a sample machinist, or pattern cutter background.

A  garment tech needs to have a thorough understanding of clothing construction, pattern cutting and fit. They also need excellent communication skills so as to be able to liaise with pattern cutter, designer, factory and sample machinist.

They need to have a good eye for detail and fit. Not only do they need to understand all aspects of clothing construction, but they need to be able to  explain succinctly to the pattern cutter how to alter their pattern.
