Custom Clothing For Cyclists.

As an enthusiastic Cyclist and a qualified Spin Instructor, I take a particular interest in sample development for cycling clothing.  I have been cutting patterns for forty years now and I am very interested in ergonomics  and fit, in regard to performance sportswear in general and cycling wear in particular.

Patterns Cutting For Cycling Clothing.

Most cycling clothing, for both recreational and competitive athletes , is manufactured in stretch fabric. This provides maximum comfort and ergonomic movement.

 

Multi Panel Construction.

In order to allow for optimum performance, cycling garment patterns have a multi panel construction, including gusset shaping.

 The Commuter.

Over the past ten years there has been a massively increased interest in cycling in the UK. Not only  for the competitive and recreational cyclists. But also for the cycling Commuter, who is still not fully catered for in todays market. Not everyone wants to bicycle to work in brightly coloured and logo`d lycra. There are many commuting cyclists who would like  clothing that can be used both for cycling and for  casual wear.

While the competitive cyclist would probably require a complete change of clothing on arrival at work, many  leisurely inclined cyclists would not be putting any more effort into cycling than they would walking, so they may want to continue to wear their cycling clothes at work. Everything about the commuter cyclist wear would have to be different, including the fit. The garments would have to accomodate a fuller, less athletic frame.

I can produce all types of patterns for cycling wear, for men, women and children –  From padded bibs and shorts to soft shell jackets and jerseys, baggy shorts for mountain biking and even polos for cycle polo. Due to the varying cycling positions used in different cycling activities the garments must be cut with these ergonomic considerations involved…

What Is  Technical Clothing ?

Technical clothing, or apparel, is clothing that is not made specifically for aesthetics, but to primarily serve a function. There has been an immense increase in interest for technical clothing for all manner of purposes.

Developments.

Much of modern cycling garment manufacturing today is in China.
