Startup Workshop For New Businesses.
For those new to the clothing business who would like to learn more about how to set up and run a new clothing business, we run an excellent clothing startup workshop. The workshop is run by our senior startup consultant and award winning designer, Emile Carr.
Ergonomics Of Equestrian Clothing.
Over the years The London Pattern Cutter have been involved with a number of UK equestrian clothing projects. The ergonomics of performance horse riding wear are quite specific.
The garments need to be be functional, durable, and stylish. Some riding garments may be for competitive riding, while others may be for every day riding.
Technical Performance Fabrics.
Modern cutting edge technical fabrics have meant a revolution in equestrian clothing in recent years. There are more stretch fabrics and moisture wicking fabrics available.
Each style may be made with a variety of fabrics with different properties depending on the specific requirements. Some areas may need to be stretchy, while others may need to be abrasive, or tough.
We provide a fabric sourcing service for anyone interested in letting us do the leg work.
Modern Equestrian Wear.
Modern equestrian wear is miles ahead of garments produced even a few years ago. Modern fabrics, treatments and processes has changed the industry entirely.
Riding Leggings.
Leggings and riding tights are increasingly used as a fashionable alternatives to jodhpurs or breeches.
Seat Grip Silicone printing.
One of the most important things for any rider is the grip provided by the riding trousers, whether that be breeches, jodhpurs, or riding tights. In modern equestrian wear that is often provided by silicone printed panelling applied to the seat, inner thing and knee areas.
The silicone pattern is applied to the garment panel before the garment is made, by a printing process. The more print layers there re, the more grip and durability the garment should have.
Breeches may either use a simple knee grip version, or a full seat version. The knee grip type has a silicone grip applied to the inside of the knee. The full seat grip allows for maximum grip.
Unfortunately, this process is only available in China, due to EU laws, although this could well change now. We can replicate it for sampling purposes though.

Pattern Cutting.
Comfort and performance are very important factors in riding clothes that have to endure rough treatment in all types of weathers. The cut and shape of the pattern, along with the garment construction are important factors in producing a top quality garment. Seam and panel placements are crucial to comfort and freedom of movement.
Tech Packs.
With any technical garment it is essential to use a professionally designed tech pack to guarantee accurate production. As equestrian wear is often manufactured abroad, this makes the use of a tech pack even more necessary.
Sampling.
Much equestrian wear is very similar to sportswear, requiring a mixture of specialist machinery and sewing skills to be able to produce a professional product with a high quality finish.
Previous Projects.
One of our previous projects was to produce a range of jockey racing silks for a startup called Allertons Racing Silks. This was about forty years ago.
The garments had no stretch, but had to be made to accommodate the extreme riding position of the jockey, without restricting the rider, or pulling the seams.
Each outfit had to be made with the shaping in the seams that each racing colours design allowed. This involved a certain amount of development due to the unusual ergonomics involved.
Once the initial base pattern was finalised, the other sizes and styles were comparatively straight forward, depending on where the design seams were placed.
