How Do I Start A Streetwear Brand ?
Starting a streetwear brand is really very easy. We specialise in helping fashion startups, and especially total beginners. We can help you if you want to start your own streetwear brand.
What Is A Tech Pack ?
A tech pack is the blueprint for your design, to ensure that it is made exactly as you would like it to be. It should include all the important information for any factory to be able to make your garment.
Do I Really Need A Tech Pack ?
You dont always need a tech pack to create your patterns, samples, or production, but it is in your interests to create one, as long as it is clear, concise, and accurate. A poor techpack can be worse than no techpack at all.
In the long run providing a tech pack could save you a lot of money, time, and effort. Some factories will insist on you providing a tech pack, but you will be liable if it is not correct.
How Do I Make A Techpack ?
Today, most tech packs are created through computer programmes such as Illustrator. Although a computer generated tech pack does look more professional, there is no reason that you have to use Illustrator, or any computer software at all.
Computer generated tech packs can be counter productive in inexperienced hands, partly because it may give a misleading impression that you know exactly what you are doing, and partly because you dont give the same thought into producing a computer file as you do in producing hand written drawings and information.
Hand Written Information.
If you are using a physical paper pattern for your initial samples, you can include much of the needed information on the front of your pattern envelope. This is how information used to be conveyed to sample machinists and factories, and still often is.
This is a perfectly acceptable way to provide information to your factory, as long as it is clear and accurate. Hand written information may include a hand drawn technical sketch, with clearly written instructions.
Employing A Tech Pack Designer.
It is best to use a professional tech pack designer specialising in streetwear if possible, but any experienced garment tech should be able to do the job perfectly well.
It can be expensive to employ a professional garment tech if you have a lot of different styles with small production runs. In that case you may want to get them to create one tech pack for each type of garment.
You could have a freelance tech pack designer create all your tech packs for you. This is certainly recommended if you have technical designs that require a lot of extensive knowledge, or if you have large production runs.
Can I Make My Own Techpack ?
It is possible to create your own tech packs, but you need to use extreme caution. You could create your own templates by following instructions you find on the internet, and especially through YT videos, but this wouldn’t be the most reliable method.
You need to be able to really understand what you are doing, and to understand the terminology used within the fashion industry.
You could take one of our tech pack workshops, in which we will teach you how to create your own tech packs, using your own provided garments.

Using Templates.
You dont have to create a new tech pack from scratch for each new streetwear design you produce. You can create a template for each type of style that can be used to create new styles.
Most establishment streetwear brands will standardise their size and fit. They will have the same basic fit for each type of product. Loose fitting jeans would be made from one pattern block.
Slim fit jeans from another block. Loose fitting hoodies would be made from their own block. Slimmer hoodies from another block. The same for sweatshirts, T shirts, etc.
Brands like Nike and Superdry will have their own standardise fits and sizes, so that a customer should be able to buy their clothing confidently. Most importantly for you, the new streetwear brand, you will get far fewer returns.
You would be well advised to have these template tech packs made by a professional garment technician.
How Much Does It Cost ?
Tech pack prices vary depending on all sorts of factors. A five page tech pack may cost around £180.
