Solving Fit Issues
Solving Fit Issues For Small Brands.
Garment fit issues are a major problem for small clothing brands on a limited budget. Good fit is essential for the success of any fashion business, and high returns due to ill fitting garments can be ruinous. Solving fit issues is essential for the success of any new brand.
The most important step for any fashion business to take in order to minimise fit issues is to employ an experienced garment technologist, expert in the appropriate genre, who understands sizing and fit. They should be able to advise on establishing an overall sizing strategy from the very start, and fitting and adjusting each individual style.
Too many new fashion brands manufacture abroad and rely on the factory to determine the sizing. This is where many businesses run into problems, especially when manufacturing abroad. If they have no one who understands sizing and quality control there can be many problems as a result.
What To Do.
The first thing to do is to establish your sizing strategy, and decide on what the base size would be. If possible you need to have a fit model who represents your base size, to test each style at the sample stage, before production. A good mannequin is useful, but a live model should tell you so much more, while providing useful feedback.
You need to develop block patterns in the base size for each type of style. This should ensure uniformity throughout the range of styles. But each design should still undergo fit assessment sessions as part of the product development process.
Liaise With The Factory.
Your garment technologist should be able to control the initial product development, and liaise with the factory to ensure good results.
