Locations.

We have several UK locations for lingerie sampling – London, Nottingham, and Cheltenham. Please mention which location you would prefer.

Toile.

Before making a sample it may be necessary to make a toile to test the fit and shape of your design. The toile is a mock-up, made in a similar but cheaper fabric to your final chosen fabric.

Because the toile is made to test fit and shape, it is generally made as a simplified version of the sample. Sometimes it is best to skip the toile stage and make a first sample instead.

All our samples are made in our fully equipped London sampling studios by specialist lingerie sample machinists and seamstresses. Our patterns are made by specialist contour pattern cutters.

Product Development.

The sampling process is one of product development, from the initial design concept, to the pattern, and to the final sample.

Design.

Lingerie, underwear and sleepwear are essentially the same type of garment, although each category has grown to mean slightly different things. While all lingerie is underwear, not all underwear is lingerie.

Lingerie is considered more exotic, sexy and erotic, while being less functional than either underwear or sleepwear. With our lingerie design development services, we can design all types of lingerie and sleepwear. Or we can work with your own designs.

Offshore Production.

There are few underwear factories with specialist machinery in the U.K. If you want small scale manufacture, then we can do that for you. We can also help with fabric sourcing and tech packs.

If you want larger scale, then you would need to decide whether you want to manufacture in the U.K. or abroad. Offshore production tends to be cheaper and does offer the advantage of fully factored production.

In this country most factories only offer CMT.

Pattern Cutting.

There are very few lingerie pattern cutters in the U.K. but there is a fast growing demand. This means that lingerie pattern cutters tend to be booked up well in advance, and they may be unable to take on your work for weeks ahead, if at all.

The temptation can be to use a general freelance pattern cutter who is not specialised in lingerie. If the pattern cutter in question is very experienced and knows how to get results, then this may work out O.K. But generally it is better to choose a specialist.

Not only will they be able to produce a professional pattern, but they should know how to liaise with the factory and ensure that your product is produced correctly.

Grading.

Grading lingerie can be far more complicated than grading generally, although once the grader has an understanding of the grading rules, then it becomes fairly straight forward.

The styles do not vary as widely as they do for other types of garments and the pattern pieces tend to be quite small and so are easily manageable.

Lingerie pattern cutters need to have an extensive knowledge of grading, because they will often have to provide this service themselves.

This is because often graders have little or no knowledge of grading lingerie, especially if the grading is for a niche size group or category. We are often asked to grade for full busted figures, or for larger ladies.

Tech Packs.

Once the samples are approved, then we can construct a tech pack , which is your garment blueprint, to be used by the factory for your final production.

The tech pack would include a detailed technical sketch of the garment, details such as stitching, elastics, trims, labels and accessories, measurements, fabrics, and a size chart.
