Full Package Production
What Is Full Factored Production ?
07). Full Package Production(FPP) means that the factory supply everything for you. The FPP clothing manufacturer will help with the design process, source fabrics and trims, make the tech packs, patterns, toiles and samples, grade the patterns, and provide the final production.
Although more expensive than CMT, full package manufacturing may seem ideal for many startup brands. You will not have full hands on control, but you will save massive amounts of time.
To give you some degree of control it is essential to use a professionally designed tech pack, especially if manufacturing abroad.
Tech Packs.
Before you go ahead with your chosen factory, you need to ensure that you have a good tech pack to minimise risks, and to ensure that everything is made exactly as you want it to be. If you need more information just check our Tech Pack Design page.
Fashion Startups.
If you are a fashion startup, and are desperately looking for some basic information before committing yourself, then our fashion startup workshop should prove immensely beneficial, and save you a whole load of potential problems.
Design Assistance.
The design process is the first stage in the production of your garments. While some clients will know exactly what designs they want, how they want them made, and in what fabrics, others will have just a rough sketch with a general idea. They will have a design in mind, but know little of how to achieve it.
Your design sketches will have to be transformed into fully specced technical sketches that can be translated into a finished garment by the pattern cutter.
Fabric And Trim Sourcing.
Fabric and trim sourcing is a valuable service and should save you endless hours trying to do it yourself. It is hard enough trying to find fabric and trim suppliers willing to deal with small startups, without having to find affordable materials.
Pattern Cutting.
The factory pattern cutters will cut a pattern to represent your design from the information given to them. As the pattern is an extremely important part of the whole process, it is vital that the pattern cutter is experienced in your chosen genre.
Sampling.
The first sample will be made from the pattern provided by the pattern cutter. You need to aim to get this right first time by supplying the factory with plenty of information. Otherwise you may need a second, or a third sample. This is where the tech pack shows its importance.
Grading.
Grading is only carried out when the first pattern and sample are finalised. The sizing will be decided following consultation with the client. You need to be sure that the pattern is perfect before grading.
Trusted UK Factories.
Your choice of factory is vitally important. You need to choose a manufacturer that you can trust to produce your designs accurately and speedily. The best FPP factories in the UK are always very busy, and they are few and far between.
Offshore FPP Manufacturers.
Generally, off-shore clothing factories offer a FPP service. It can be very tempting for startups to opt for full package production from foreign factories, as everything is done for you, and it can be far cheaper too.
Dont be tempted without weighing up the options very carefully, as you will very probably get burnt if you dont employ some expert UK help.
If you are a little more experienced in running a fashion business and you are looking for bigger production runs, then this can be an option, but even then we would suggest only doing so with professional guidance.
We would of course, be happy to assist if you were considering going this route. We can advise whether it is a viable option, and we can assist if you decide to opt for foreign production.
