Independent Freelance  Knitwear Designer.

Gemma is a freelance knitwear designer, machinist and pattern writer, based in North London. She  has taught machine knitting both privately and for independent sewing shops.  Gemma  specialises in machine made fully fashioned knitwear, as well as custom designed knitwear, with  a great understanding of yarn and knitwear techniques.

Fully Fashioned Knitwear.

What is fully fashioned knitwear ? It  is the more traditional type of knitwear –  Generally  more expensive than cut and sew knitwear, due to it being far more labour intensive.

Each garment component is knitted to shape, and created individually, rather than in bulk.  Shaping is created by  a process of increasing and decreasing stitches. This produces a luxury product that has zero waste.

Gemma has great in depth knowledge of industrial knitwear production.

Gemma teaches machine knitting, both online, and face to face in her London studios. She  is available for face to face or interactive online tuition. Classes are one to one or paired tuition.
