Scotland Pattern Cutter
Freelance Pattern Cutter In Scotland.
I am a freelance clothing pattern cutter, grader and sample maker working in Dundee Scotland. I have over forty years experience, and provide a comprehensive pattern cutting, grading and sampling service to the Scottish clothing industry, as well as private clients.
I dont just cut clothes patterns though. I can help with everything you need to get your product to market – Fashion design. Pattern cutting. Samples. Grades. Tech packs. Mentoring.
I can advise on small clothing factories in Scotland, or help provide production runs through local small Scottish factories with low or no MOQ. If you would prefer to use your own chosen factory, I can provide you with advice, and details of small local units.
Above all, I can provide tons of advice to any new Scots clothing brands. If you are considering starting a new fashion brand in Scotland, please fell free to email me.
I always stress the importance of employing a pattern cutter who is specialised in your product type. That advice is especially relevant to new fashion startups in Scotland, where there are few specialist pattern cutters.
Having worked for so long as a freelance pattern cutter, I have made just about every conceivable type of pattern. So my specialism is just about everything.
If pressed, I would have to say that my special specialist areas were – All types of menswear, mens and ladies tailoring, sportswear, swimwear, mens shirts, coats, functional wear and childrenswear.

I can cut patterns for any type of garment and have extensive experience in many areas. Previous clients I have worked for include :-

All Saints, Jaeger, Wintle, Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson, Hennes; Duffer of Saint George, M&S , Boy, Vivienne Westwood.
LADIESWEAR –
Alexander McQueen, Jean Muir, Hennes, Peter Jensen, M&S.
CHILDRENSWEAR –

Tailoring.
Tailoring is an area of pattern cutting that requires a lot of experience to perfect. Just making a well balanced and nicely fitting garment is only the start.
Creating a professional factory ready pattern requires understanding of jacket construction, linings and interfacings.
Inexperienced jacket pattern cutters in my experience, make really awful patterns because they make several big errors, plus innumerable smaller errors that combine to make one big mess of a pattern.
Mens Shirts.
Mens shirt patterns also require a great deal of experience and knowledge. There are different types of construction methods for mens shirts. Without years of experience it would not be possible to provide a professional pattern.
Mens Underwear.
Although far simpler than either tailoring or shirts, mens underwear pattern making still requires a great deal of knowledge to get right. Construction is similar to sportswear construction, and some of the shapes are similar.
Sportswear.
Sportswear covers a great variety of types of garment. Each type of sports garment has specific requirements. Having been a sportsman and fitness enthusiast all my life, I have an extra special interest in creating sportswear..
